CEI-PEA has been working with charter public schools since the advent of charter school legislation in New York State in the 1990s. Recognizing that charter schools carry forward the vision of school autonomy in exchange for greater accountability that is the premise upon which CEI-PEA’s leaders based their approach to education, the organization has taken a leadership role in providing direct and network-based support for charter schools in New York City and elsewhere across the country.
